I have two user accounts set up on my mac. User drew I use for most things, but if I'm making a screencast I'll switch to the demo user. I know that the demo user has a clean desktop, and the font size is larger than usual in my terminal and text editors, making everything a bit more legible when capturing the screen. When I record a screencast as the demo user, I save the file to /Users/Shared/screencasts. As I understand it, the /Users/Shared directory is supposed to be accessible to all user accounts on the mac. If I created and saved a screenflow document as the demo user, I should be able to read and write that file when logged in as user drew.

That was the theory, but it didn't always work out that well in practice. I would occasionally find that a directory was only writable by one user or the other. Perhaps I'd open a screenflow document as user drew and attempt to export the video to the same directory, only to find that the directory was owned by demo, meaning that I couldn't cr

iOS 16 introduced launch constraints, which can be used to constraint the launch of an application.
There are three types of constraints:
    Self Constraints, which the launched application itself must meet
    Parent Constraints, which the parent process must meet
    Responsible Constraints, which the "responsible process" must meet (I assume that the responsible process is the process that asked launchd to launch a service)

Additionally, the TrustCache format was updated (see below) to support assigning each binary a "Constraint Category", which forces Self and Parent Constraints.
Note that Self, Parent and Responsible Constraints can also be set by the process performing the launch and they can be included in the code signature, in the new blob type 0xFADE8181. In both cases, the constraints are DER encoded (just like the DER entitlements).

Resize Ghidra for High DPI screens

If you run Ghidra on a high DPI screen, you will probably find the GUI to be scaled down so small to be almost of no use.

There is a setting that you can adjust to scale the Ghidra GUI:

in $GHIDRA_ROOT/support is a file named launch.properties. In this launch.properties file is the following configuration key:

Introduction

This is about documenting getting Linux running on the late 2016 and mid 2017 MPB's; the focus is mostly on the MacBookPro13,3 and MacBookPro14,3 (15inch models), but I try to make it relevant and provide information for MacBookPro13,1, MacBookPro13,2, MacBookPro14,1, and MacBookPro14,2 (13inch models) too. I'm currently using Fedora 27, but most the things should be valid for other recent distros even if the details differ. The kernel version is 4.14.x (after latest update).

The state of linux on the MBP (with particular focus on MacBookPro13,2) is also being tracked on https://github.com/Dunedan/mbp-2016-linux . And for Ubuntu users there are a couple tutorials (here and here) focused on that distro and the MacBook.

Android Memory Management

Android has a unique memory management model. Below, are the notes taken while we try to understand it thoroughly.

Activity Manager

Overview

The ActivityManager, among other things, is responsible for making sure that apps that are most important to the user and/or essential remain active. It does this by dynamically assigning values that roughly indicate the app's importance. When memory gets low these values are used to find the apps that need to be "trimmed." The memory from these "trimmed" apps is freed, making more available for the more important apps.
