Guiding Questions to Define The Relationship:
What are your learning goals for this project? J
HUGH: I want to learn heaps about relational databases.
IZA: Learning more about CSV and databases, refining git workflow, organization, and testing.
What is your collaboration style? How do you feel about pair programming vs. divide-and-conquer approaches?
HUGH + IZA: I think the situation calls for different approaches. Im cool with either.
How do you communicate best? How do you appreciate receiving communication from others?
HUGH: I prefer direct communication and direct feedback. In person is better.
IZA: I communicate best in person, but also do well communicating with Slack.
How would you describe your work style?
HUGH: I like to work somewhere quiet.
IZA: I can devote as much time as necessary for the project. I also like to work somewhere quiet with no distractions.
What’s gone well or poorly in your previous projects?
HUGH: Everything has gone awesomely with clear and open communication.
IZA: In previous projects what went well was communication, distributing tasks, and making sure those tasks were completed in a timely manner.
What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work?
HUGH: I’m pretty laid back in this regard. A quiet environment is preferable.
IZA: To do my best work, I need open communication, feedback, and whiteboarding to help visualize concepts that I might not be able to follow along with.
What scheduling restraints do you have? What are your scheduling preferences?
HUGH: I don’t have any scheduling restraints. But would rather not work super late nights
IZA: No schedule restraints. I can commit as much time as needed for the project - open to meeting to tackle tasks that require both partners.
What is your style for giving feedback? Does anything ever hold you back from giving feedback?
HUGH: My style of giving feedback is direct… Nothing holds me back from giving feedback.
IZA: Introverted personality, nothing holds me back from giving positive feedback, but when it comes to constructive feedback I tend to be more reserved.
What do you identify as being your biggest strength(s) technically, as they relate to this project? Where do you feel you could use improvement in your technical skills, as they relate to this project? How can our team help support you in improving these skills?
HUGH: I am already somewhat familiar with relational databases and so I foresee myself being strong in that regard. I can definitely improve on TDD, ruby style && syntax, and using enumerables.
IZA: I think one of my biggest strengths is being able to break down logic, via whiteboarding. I could use improvement in my workflow and testing - as I often get carried away with different tasks and have to step back and reorganize. My partner can help support me in improving these skills by keeping me in check and not letting me get carried away.
What tools do you want to use to manage the project?
HUGH: Waffle.io, github, git, slack, screenhero
IZA: github, slack, screenhero, familiarizing myself with Waffle.io
How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into issues with features of the project?
HUGH: Collaboratively and in person.
IZA: ^^ same. Also open to reaching out for help if we’ve been stuck on the same problem for extended amounts of time.
How do you know if a project is successful? How can we achieve that as a group?
HUGH: this project will be a success if we learn a bunch about data manipulation and relational databases. It will also be a success if we problem solve as a team and work collaboratively.
IZA: I know a project is successful if both persons learned something from the experience. I also know a project is successful when both persons have given 100% into making the project clean and functional. |
