Explanation: | |
CLICOLOR=1 simply enables coloring of your terminal. | |
LSCOLORS=... specifies how to color specific items. | |
Sequence of uppercase and lowercase letters specifies colors | |
of the foreground and background items. | |
Here is excerpt from man ls that explains meaning of the attributes: | |
The color designators are as follows: | |
a black | |
b red | |
c green | |
d brown | |
e blue | |
f magenta | |
g cyan | |
h light grey | |
A bold black, usually shows up as dark grey | |
B bold red | |
C bold green | |
D bold brown, usually shows up as yellow | |
E bold blue | |
F bold magenta | |
G bold cyan | |
H bold light grey; looks like bright white | |
x default foreground or background | |
Note that the above are standard ANSI colors. The actual | |

The order of the attributes are as follows: | |

The default is "exfxcxdxbxegedabagacad", i.e. blue fore- | |
ground and default background for regular directories, | |
black foreground and red background for setuid executa- | |
bles, etc. | |
The biggest change in readability of the colored text came from switching to use cyan (g/G) | |
where that hard to see blue was used by default. | |
ANSII blue has a very bad differentiation on Mac's homebrew, so changing to cyan made a huge |
